Labor Day weekend is here and that can only mean one thing: It’s time for the Boss Hogg 150 at Wiscasset Speedway!
The annual 150-lap event made its debut in 1991, honoring former track owner and Wiscasset Speedway/Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame member Dave St. Clair.
The event has grown bigger and better with every passing year thanks to both drivers and fans expressing more and more interest. While the staple race itself takes place on Sunday, Wiscasset Speedway is upping the ante as they host a doubleheader race weekend that kicks off with a special Group 2 program on Saturday.
Before any cars take to the track, Team Wiscasset is hosting their annual “Racin’ Cancer” walk on Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm, which is a charity walk/ride that raises money for the Dean Snell Cancer Foundation. In the first 6 years of the event, an impressive $70,000+ has been raised for the non-profit organization that helps cover various living expenses for local Maine residents going through cancer treatments.
The racing portion of the day will start earlier than usual at 3:00 pm, which will give the track more time to prepare for Sunday’s main event. Saturday’s program will include the Wood Pellet Warehouse Late Models, weekly T&L Automotive Modifieds, Dale’s Cash Fuel Roadrunners and the visiting New England Dwarf Car Series.

The grandstands will swing open at noon on Sunday and the green flag will fly at 2:00 pm for the highlight event of the weekend: the Boss Hogg 150. Joining the Norm’s Used Cars Pro Stocks on Sunday will also be the Portland Glass Strictly Streets and the Davis Erector Group 207 Crate Modifieds, further adding to the excitement.
This year’s event is presented by Wallace Roofing & Home Improvement and will be a $10,000-to-win race with an overall purse of over $38,000. All 150 laps are fully sponsored, whether that be by fans, teams or local businesses, further sweetening the pot. The race will also feature a $1,000 halfway leader bonus, presented by Professional Land Surveyors of Windham.
Mimicking last year, the top 14 drivers will be decided by time trials and the top driver in the trials will receive a $300 bonus in memory of Team Wiscasset’s own Russ Pepler. All remaining drivers following time trials will be forced to qualify into the show via consolation races, with 28 competitors making the show and a top-10 redraw prior to the start of the feature.
Heavy hitters like Garrett Hall, Joey Pole and former race winner Mike Hopkins are set to return to give it another go this year. The field will also include Hall of Fame driver Kelly Moore and notable drivers like Kevin Douglass, Jeremy Davis, Sylas Ripley and Rusty Poland. You can also count on seeing numerous Wiscasset regulars in the field including Nick Hinkley, Logan Melcher and Matt Beers, among others. As the race commemorates the one and only “Boss Hogg”, one can almost guarantee that a St. Clair will also be in the field carrying on the family legacy.
There are also a handful of regional drivers that are a “maybe” as of right now, but you never know who will show up on Boss Hogg 150 Sunday with their eyes on the $10,000 prize.
Bring the whole family out to Wiscasset Speedway this weekend for 2 full days of racing fun. As always, adult admission remains just $5 while kids 6 and under get in for free.
Continue supporting your local short tracks and I hope to see you there!
