Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching and that can only mean one thing: The Boss Hogg 150 is making its return to Wiscasset Speedway! The annual event, which made its’ debut back in 1991, is the biggest Super Late Model race of the season at the famed track. Once again, this year’s event is presented by Bath Iron Works/General Dynamics and will feature not one, but two action-packed days of racing on both Saturday, September 2nd and Sunday, September 3rd.

Saturday will kick off with the fifth annual ‘Racin’ Cancer’ walk from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, which benefits the Dean Snell Cancer Foundation. The event was started by Penny Shorette in honor of former Outlaw Mini driver, Shawn Gilley. Over $30,000 has been raised over the past four years for the foundation thanks to the walk itself, product raffles and even an Enduro car raffle. This year’s Enduro car was donated by Jeff Davis and family. Community members of all ages are welcome to participate in the casual stroll and donation forms can be found on the Wiscasset Speedway website.

A jam-packed Group #2 program will follow at 5:00 pm and will feature the T&L Automotive Modifieds, Wood Pellet Warehouse Late Models, Kennebec Equipment Rental Outlaw Minis and the visiting N.E. Dwarf Cars.

Sunday’s Boss Hogg 150 racing action, co-sponsored by Holt’s Yard Improvements and Oxford Auto Salvage, will kick off at 2:00 pm. The race was named after Dave “Boss Hogg” St. Clair, the former Wiscasset Speedway owner and driver who was elected to the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2018 and the Wiscasset Speedway Hall of Fame the year following. Dave has cemented himself in local racing history with countless wins at Spud Speedway, Speedway 95, Unity Raceway and of course, Wiscasset.

This year, the winner of the race will be taking home a hearty $10,000 check. 2022 race winner Mike Hopkins is expected to make his return to Wiscasset on Sunday, along with 2021 race winner Kevin Douglass and the 2020 race winner, Trevor Sanborn.

The entry list is still growing by the day for the event and will include a healthy mix of both Wiscasset regulars and visiting standouts like Dave Farrington, Jr., Joey Pole, Garrett Hall and Brandon Barker, who have all achieved success at various tracks across New England. Some surprise drivers may also make the trek up the coast for the event, but only time will tell.

Traditionally, up to 30 cars will start the race and it is a 4-tire race with no required pit stops. Wiscasset Speedway is also upping the ante by selling laps for $25 a piece. All lap money raised will go back to the drivers and toward the overall purse of the race. In addition to this, there will also be a $1,000 halfway leader bonus, which is presented by Survey, Inc. and MDG Logging.

The program will also include the Portland Glass Strictly Streets as well as the visiting NEMA Lites and NEMA Midgets and will feature a special performance by “The Real Young Swagg” at intermission. The grandstands will surely fill up fast and will be opening 2 hours prior to the green flag at noon. As always, admission is just $5!
