The Ladies Acceleration Tour returned to Spud Speedway on Saturday for another action-packed event for both the Hornets and Outlaws.

Jody Rose, who is known for her success on dirt, kicked the day off by claiming her first career heat win on an asphalt track. Destiny Overlock also turned the fastest lap of the night with a 17.60, but all competitors saw improvement in their lap times from their first visit earlier this season.

While the 4-Cylinder Hornets battled it out in the feature, there were 2 simultaneous races happening as series founder Betty Nelson and division standout Kasie Kolbe joined the field in their 8-Cylinder Outlaws, putting on a battle of their own.

Rhonda Crain came out swinging in the feature, leading the first 8 laps of the race. Heat winner Jody Rose made way to her door, hungry for her slice of the pie. Rose successfully completed the pass on lap 9 and held onto it until lap 18, where she unfortunately met the turn 2 sandpile, bringing out a caution.

Destiny Overlock, who was methodically moving up the leaderboard prior to the caution, got a stellar jump on the restart and settled into the top spot. She never looked back, securing another feature victory in the division.

Rhonda Crain and Chrissy Rizzuto, who successfully clawed her way back through the field following an incident earlier in the race, rounded out the podium. Meanwhile, Kasie Kolbe took the checkered again in the Outlaws after an exciting battle alongside Betty Nelson, who joined all of the tour drivers in Victory Lane.

“It was an amazing day at Spud Speedway. I can’t thank Troy and Jim enough for allowing the tour to come and race at Spud. It’s a beautiful facility and the staff are phenomenal”, Betty Nelson shared following the event.

The 4-Cylinder Hornets will be making their return to Maine’s biggest and fastest track Wiscasset Speedway this Saturday, July 19th for their long-awaited $500-to-win race, where one lady will be crowned “Queen of the Oval” following an extremely tight and exciting points race!

The green flag flies at 5:00 pm on Saturday and adult general admission is just $5 while children 6 and under get in for free.

Come support your local short track and the hardworking drivers and staff of the Ladies Acceleration Tour. I hope to see you there!
