After Tuesday’s Pro All Star Series festivities at Star Speedway were postponed, both PASS divisions made the trek up to Spud Speedway in Caribou, Maine for the track’s second annual Firecracker 200 event. Leading up to Sunday, the Pro All Star Series Modified division had no repeat winners for the 2019 season, proving just how competitive the division remains each and every week.
Wayne Allard took off with the early lead in the 50-lap feature. Spencer Morse was all over Kate Re for third on lap 3, taking over the position that lap. Tyler King was also on the move early, battling it out with Jairet Harrison for fifth on lap 10. He took over the spot just two laps later, breaking the top five. He continued to climb through the field, advancing to fourth on lap 14 and to third over Mike Carignan on lap 17.
While battling it out for position, Spencer Morse took a spin on lap 22 in turn 2, leading to the first caution of the feature. This was a tough break for the #34 team, as they were on a quick voyage to the front of the pack.
Tyler King was all over Wayne Allard for the lead on the restart. The two drivers made slight contact and Allard took a spin on lap 24 in turn 4, leading to another mid-race caution. There was a pile-up at the rear of the field on the restart, collecting Matty and Randy Sanborn, Wayne Allard and Bobby Nadeau, resulting in another caution.
Tyler King took off on the restart once again, pulling away from his competitors. Spencer Morse was also on the move in the second half of the feature, on the mend from his incident earlier in the race. He was all over Kate Re for third on lap 29, taking over the spot that lap. After getting caught up in 2 incidents, Wayne Allard was in hot pursuit in the closing laps of the feature, climbing back up to fourth on lap 38.
Spencer Morse was all over Mike Carignan for the runner-up spot on lap 44 and the two drivers battled it out for position in the closing laps as Tyler King continued to pace the field. King took home the feature victory, becoming the first repeat winner of 2019 in the PASS Modified division. Mike Carignan held off Spencer Morse for second, scoring a runner-up finish. Wayne Allard and Jairet Harrison rounded out the top five.
The PASS Modified division brought a ton of excitement to Spud Speedway on Sunday and all 3 top finishers shared their love for the track and the event. It looks like the Modified division may be making the return to Spud Speedway for years to come!
You can catch the Pro All Star Series Modified division again next Sunday, August 11th at Oxford Plains Speedway. Racing begins at 5:00 pm and the PASS SLM division will also be competing! See you there!
