The NELCAR Legends Tour made their return to Wiscasset Speedway on Saturday for their fourth race of the 2022 season. The field included many talented drivers, including the 2020 series champion, Luke LeBrun, and Legends tour regulars, Ryan and Cody Rice. Chasing the Checkered driver, Charlie Sanborn, also made his Wiscasset Legends debut on Saturday. Sanborn had previously raced a Legends car at the now-defunct Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.
The competition kicked off with two 8-lap heat races. Luke LeBrun, who is also the 2021 Legends champion at Seekonk Speedway, picked up the heat victory after leading the race from start to finish. Jake Kelley and Ryan Rice rounded out the top 3.
Devin Deshaies took off with the early lead over Charlie Sanborn in the second and final qualifying heat. Dave Stone, III pulled off the track on the initial lap of the heat, parking his machine on the infield.
James Anderson made his way to Charlie Sanborn’s door on the final lap of the heat, challenging for the runner-up spot. Sanborn was able to hold him off as Devin Deshaies picked up the heat victory.
Ryan Rice and Charlie Sanborn tangled on the initial lap of the 25-lap feature, resulting in Sanborn taking a spin in turn 1. The incident led to an early caution.
After the initial restart was called off by race control, Devin Deshaies zoned in, pulling away from his competitors. Luke LeBrun was also on the move behind him, reeling in the leader by lap 4 before promptly taking over the top spot.
LeBrun and Deshaies continued to lead the charge, extending their lead to a full straightaway by the halfway point of the race. Meanwhile, there was a heated 3-way battle for third between Ryan Rice, James Anderson and Jake Kelley taking place behind them. Anderson broke free on lap 18, pulling ahead with the advantage.
Luke LeBrun continued to hold off Devin Deshaies through the closing laps of the feature, ultimately picking up another NELCAR Tour victory. James Anderson, Ryan Rice and Jake Kelley rounded out the top five.
