After a long delay to the start of the season due to Mother Nature, the Ladies Acceleration Tour was finally able to get off the ground and running two weeks ago at Speedway 95.

Thankfully, Mother Nature played nice this past weekend, and the tour took their talents all the way up to “the county” of Maine – joining the race program at Spud Speedway.

Jody Rose kicked off the day with a solid performance in the Hornets, leading the majority of the qualifying heat race until a caution brought the field together with just 2 laps to go. This opened the door for defending champion Destiny Overlock, who took the opportunity and ran with it, scoring the heat victory.

Overlock went on to lead the field to green in the feature while Jody Rose waited in the wings, ready to strike. While the two leaders pulled away, Rhonda Crain and Chrissy Rizzutto put on their own battle for the podium. The two drivers went door-to-door for a handful of laps, with neither throwing in the towel.

Unfortunately, Jody Rose’s race came to an abrupt halt in the closing laps of the race as she took a spin in turn 2, resulting in a caution. Rhonda Crain was also plagued with mechanical issues under yellow, forcing her to retire from the race prematurely.

Destiny Overlock maintained command on the restart and pulled away with it, scoring the feature victory. Chrissy Rizzutto and Dalaney Dunn followed, rounding out the podium.

Kasie Kolbe was the only Outlaw driver to make the voyage up to Spud Speedway, so the track presented her with the opportunity to race in their Street Stock class. She was met with both nervousness and excitement but was up for the challenge. Kasie elected to take the tail-end of the field for the start of the feature and enjoyed learning the new-to-her track, picking up a fourth-place finish in the Street Stocks but the checkered in the Lady Outlaws.

“Jim Gamage and Troy Haney have done an amazing job with Spud Speedway and we can’t thank them (and their staff) enough for their hospitality this past weekend. We surely can’t wait to go back on July 12th”, tour founder Betty Nelson shared following the event.

The Ladies Acceleration Tour will revisit Speedway 95 again for their next event on Saturday, June 28th. The green flag flies at 7:00 pm!
