The 2025 season at Wiscasset Speedway has gotten off to a slow start due to unfavorable weekend weather throughout Maine. After the track was forced to cancel the Group #2 season opener on April 26th, they faced yet another tough decision for Saturday’s Group 1 program.
Team Wiscasset saw a gap in the forecast on race day and decided to roll the dice with an abbreviated feature-only racing program. With weather closing in on the area quicker than desired, track staff worked diligently to prepare drivers to be ready to roll 30 minutes earlier than the initial posted start time of 5:00 pm.

The racing action kicked off with a 25-lap feature for the Kennebec Equipment Rental Thunder 4 Minis. Michael Golding took off with the early lead, but multi-time champion Zach Audet was quickly charging through the field. Audet, who started at the back of the pack due to the winner’s handicap, nestled into the runner-up spot on lap 7. He continued to push the envelope in the coming laps, overtaking the lead with just 10 laps to go. Golding made his way back to Audet’s inside door in the closing laps of the race, but Audet was able to seal the deal, securing back-to-back wins in the division. Gunnar Josselyn followed, completing the podium.

The extended 50-lap feature for the Norm’s Used Cars Pro Stocks was cut down to 40 laps and Nick Calvert led the field to green. With heavy traffic building up behind him, Calvert was able to extend his lead to a half straightaway 10 laps into the race. Just as Calvert was finding his stride, Nick Hinkley broke free from the traffic and began closing in on the race leader. After clearing Andy Gilbert for second on lap 15, Hinkley moved on to Calvert, overtaking the top spot just after the halfway mark. The skies then opened up, resulting in Kelly Moore taking a spin on lap 25 in turn 4. The yellow flag was drawn due to weather and the race was deemed official at that point. Nick Hinkley was awarded the win while Nick Calvert and Kelly Moore followed, rounding out the top 3.
The track was in a brief “holding period” following the conclusion of the Pro Stock race in hopes that the skies would clear once again. Sadly, the rain began to come down even harder, fully dampening the track surface. The remainder of the event was called off and it was announced that the remaining 3 divisions will have make-up races over the course of the next six Group #1 events, with exact dates to be announced at a later date and time.
Wiscasset Speedway would like to thank all of the competitors, staff, teams and fans that have stuck with them throughout the season thus far and are hoping for sunny skies for the anticipated Group #2 season opener this coming Saturday, May 10th. The green flag flies at 5:00 pm.
