The Super Saturday competition rolled on at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this past Saturday with a full Thunder and NASCAR Nite program.
Last week, the Whelen Modified Tour was the premier division of the night. This week, the Sport Series was able to close out the program with a 35-lap feature race.
The Sport Series action kicked off with a 12-lap qualifying heat. Danny Wear pulled ahead with the early advantage as Bubba Pelton quickly made his way into the runner-up spot.
Ryan Phillips was also on the move early, making his way to Jim Colpritt’s outside door on lap 3, challenging for fourth before taking over the position the following lap.
While battling for position, Colby Meserve and Frank Wear made contact on lap 5 in turn 1, resulting in Meserve following to the back of the pack.
Danny Wear maintained his lead throughout the second half of the race, picking up the heat victory. Bubba Pelton and Ryan Phillips rounded out the top 3.
Danny Wear took off with the early lead over Bubba Pelton in the 35-lap feature race. Frank Wear was one of the first drivers to dive out of line, challenging Ryan Phillips for third on lap 11. the two drivers battled it out for a handful of laps before Wear pulled away with the advantage on lap 15.
Wear continued to claw his way up the leaderboard in the coming laps, making his way to Bubba Pelton’s outside door on lap 20, igniting a battle for the runner-up spot before pulling away with the position the following lap.
Dylan Thyng, fresh off of his best career finish last week, spearheaded a battle for fifth with Nick Calvert on lap 22. The two drivers duked it out until Thyng pulled ahead with the advantage on lap 24.
Ryan Phillips was on a tear in the closing laps, hunting down Bubba Pelton for third by lap 26. Phillips trailed closely behind Pelton for a few laps before making his move on lap 29, challenging to Pelton’s outside. The two drivers fought it out to the finish, where Phillips took over with just one lap to go.
Danny Wear held off his father Frank in the closing laps, securing another heat victory. The win is Wear’s second in the past 3 weeks of competition.
Ryan Phillips, Bubba Pelton and Dylan Thyng rounded out the top five.
With just two weeks left in the 2021 season, Chris Smith still holds a 19 point lead over Ryan Phillips in the division. Will anyone be able to knock him off of his throne? Stay tuned to find out!
The Super Saturday competition continues this coming Saturday, September 4th at Beech Ridge with the season’s final Autograph Night and a Labor Day fireworks presentation. The racing action kicks off at 4:00 pm.
