Beech Ridge Motor Speedway capped off their 2020 open competition race season this past Saturday with a full “Thunder” and “NASCAR Nite” program. The Pro Series 75-lap race was the spotlight event of the night and the competitors were hoping to put on a great show to end out the 2020 race season.

Joe Pastore, pulling double duty, took off with the early lead in the first Pro Series heat. Barry Poulin and Corey Bubar tangled on lap 1 in turn 3, leading to an early-race yellow.

Wyatt Alexander was all over Joe Pastore for the lead on the restart, eventually taking over the top spot on lap 3. Donnie Colpritt, Jr. was at Joe Pastore’s door for the runner-up spot on lap 5, advancing position the following lap as Rusty Poland followed closely behind. Rusty Poland and Donnie Colpritt were battling it out for the runner-up spot in the closing laps, with Poland advancing position with 4 laps to go.

Wyatt Alexander captured the heat victory, followed by Rusty Poland and Donnie Colpritt, Jr.

Evan Beaulieu held the early advantage over Travis Buzzell in the second Pro Series heat. Dave Oliver was also on the move early, at Travis Buzzell’s door for the runner-up spot on lap 3. Buzzell held the advantage over Dave Oliver and was at Beaulieu’s door, battling for the lead on lap 4. The two drivers battled it out door-to-door for the remainder of the heat, with Beaulieu beating Buzzell out by a nose at the finish line.

Evan Beaulieu and Wyatt Alexander, who are best friends off the track and competitors on the track, went head-to-head for the early lead in the 75-lap Pro Series feature. Evan Beaulieu held the advantage on lap 4, briefly pulling away from Wyatt Alexander.

Travis Buzzell was also on the move early, all over Rusty Poland for third on lap 8 and advancing position the following lap. Buzzell continued his pursuit on lap 13, making his way to the inside of Wyatt Alexander for the runner-up spot. He captured the spot and was at Beaulieu’s door the following lap, finally capturing the lead on lap 16.

Wyatt Alexander was at Evan Beaulieu’s door on lap 20, battling it out for the runner-up spot. He pulled away with the spot a handful of laps later on lap 24.

Rusty Poland was all over Dave Oliver for fourth on lap 32, pulling away with the spot the following lap. He was at Evan Beaulieu’s door for third on lap 45, capturing the spot just 3 laps later. Dave Oliver also began to pick off the field in the closing laps, advancing to fourth over Evan Beaulieu on lap 54 as Corey Bubar followed closely behind, finally breaking the top 5 after a tough start to the day.

Rusty Poland began to have a tire go down on lap 60 and started to descend through the field, eventually pulling to the pits on lap 68 after a solid performance throughout the day.

Travis Buzzell was on a rail in the closing laps, leaving only 5 cars remaining on the lead lap. He sailed into the victory, collecting his first and final feature victory of the 2020 race season at Beech Ridge. Wyatt Alexander, Dave Oliver, Corey Bubar and Evan Beaulieu rounded out the top five.

Travis Buzzell remained competitive throughout the 2020 race season and all the hard work paid off when he was able to capture the checkered flag to cap it all off!

The 2020 Pro Series season at Beech Ridge may have come to a close, but many of the drivers will still be competing at local short tracks like Wiscasset Speedway and Oxford Plains Speedway.

You can catch the Pro Stock division and a 75-lap Super Streets open race on Saturday, October 3rd, at Wiscasset Speedway. Racing begins at 4 pm and pit admission is $20 for all!
