The 2024 race season at Wiscasset Speedway has been both fun and fulfilling, but all good things must come to an end. The track kicked off their 3-week season winddown on Saturday, hosting their Group 1 Championship Night.

Bubba Pelton scored the win and the championship in the Supers.

The racing action began with a 40-lap feature for the Gosline Insurance Group Super Streets, the most competitive division at the track throughout the entirety of the season. Bubba Pelton entered the day with a slim 4-point lead over Nick Morton, leaving no room for error. Pelton clearly understood the assignment, as he drove around 2 drivers on lap 15, making his way into the runner-up spot. He continued his mission in the coming laps, clearing Josh St. Clair for the lead on lap 25. Nick Morton still lingered closely behind, advancing to second shortly after. Pelton successfully held him off as the laps wound down, capturing both the win and the division championship in one swing. Josh St. Clair followed, rounding out the podium.

Ben Burgess is a back-to-back champ in the 4-Cylinder Pros.

After winning an impressive 7 races during the season, Ben Burgess had the championship in the Brackett’s Market 4-Cylinder Pros under lock and key simply by starting the feature race. Knowing this, he held back during the qualifying heat and pulled off of the track early. The two leaders collided on lap 7 of the feature race, making room for Burgess, who took over the top spot. A mid-race caution brought the field back together, but Burgess held strong. He was under fire by his competitors on the final lap of the race, who made it a 3-wide battle to the finish line. Burgess held them off, taking home the victory and the championship while John Ricci and Jaxson Moreside completed the top 3.

PJ Evans beat out the competition on Saturday in the NELCAR Legends.

The NELCAR Legends joined the fun on Saturday with their final points race of the 2024 season. Kyle Caissie took off with the early lead, but PJ Evans was in hot pursuit of the leader. Evans made his way to Caissie’s door on lap 8, challenging for the top spot. Evans took over the lead just two laps later and never looked back, capturing the feature victory. Kyle Caissie and Reagan Parent followed, completing the podium.

Mike Landry was excited to become a 1st-time winner in the Thunder 4’s.

Mike Landry pulled away with the early lead in the 20-lap feature for the Thunder 4 Minis. Multi-time champion Zach Audet was also making quick work of the field, breaking the top 3 on lap 8. Audet was all over Landry for the top spot as the laps wound down, hungry for the top spot. Landry successfully held him off, picking up his first career victory at Wiscasset Speedway. Shane Webber followed, rounding out the top 3.

The night concluded with a 40-lap feature for the Norm’s Used Cars Pro Stocks. Dan McKeage, Jr. entered the race with a less-than-comfortable 14-point lead over veteran driver Nick Hinkley. McKeage squared up with Matt Beers for the early lead, but Beers pulled ahead with the advantage. Josh St. Clair was also on the move early, breaking the top 3 on lap 5.

Josh St. Clair ended the 2024 Pro Stock season with a win.

A caution on lap 7 brought the field back together and led to trouble for the leaders, who jumped the restart. The top 2 rows were subsequently swapped, and Josh St. Clair took off from there. Nick Hinkley started to come to life in the closing laps of the race, clearing Logan Melcher for the runner-up spot on lap 32. McKeage lingered closely behind, breaking the top 3 with just five laps to go. While St. Clair took home the victory, Nick Hinkley and Dan McKeage, Jr. rounded out the podium. McKeage was deemed the Pro Stock champion, becoming just the third driver in track history to secure 2+ championship titles in one single season.

Saturday’s Group 1 season finale was full of exciting battles both on the track and in the points. There’s still more to come, as 3 more champions will be crowned on Saturday, September 28th.

Wiscasset Speedway will also be closing out their 2024 points season on Saturday with the final marquee event of the season, the Thayer’s Automotive Strictly Shootout. The green flag flies at 3:00 pm and as always, adult admission is just $5.

See you there!

The last weekend in August is widely known as the biggest race weekend of the summer in Maine. Even with the hustle and bustle going on at other local short tracks in the area, Wiscasset Speedway still drew in a hearty crowd for their Group 1 and Enduro program on Saturday.

Ben Burgess continues to tick off the wins in the 4-Cylinders.

The night’s action kicked off with a 30-lap spotlight feature for the Brackett’s Market 4-Cylinder Pros. While Jacobee Thacker took off with the early advantage, defending champion Ben Burgess was quickly making his way through the field. Burgess got the upper hand following an early-race restart, catapulting to the lead. Division rookie, John Ricci, began to come to life at the midpoint of the race. He made his way to Burgess’ inside door on lap 15, challenging for the top spot. Ricci briefly took over but lost the lead to Burgess following a late-race restart. While battling for position with just 3 laps to go, Ricci lost control and spun around, resulting in a caution. While Ben Burgess pulled away from Jaxson Moreside in the closing laps of the race for the victory, John Ricci made his way back through the field, completing the podium.

Nick Morton was all smiles in Victory Lane following his win.

Nick Morton held early command of the 30-lap feature for the Gosline Insurance Group Super Streets. Jason Oakes was also on the move early, clearing Andy Kaherl for second on lap 9 as July “Driver of the Month” Bubba Pelton followed in succession. A mid-race caution brought the field back together and Morton maintained command on the restart while Bubba Pelton maneuvered into the runner-up spot over Jason Oakes. While Morton pulled out to a full straightaway lead in the closing laps of the race, Bubba Pelton and Jason Oakes put on a good battle for second. Pelton finally cleared Oakes with two laps to go, securing the runner-up spot behind Nick Morton, who became the first two-time winner of the season in the highly competitive Super Streets.

3 friends topped the podium in the Thunder 4 Minis.

Kyle Willette powered to the early lead in the 25-lap Thunder 4 Mini feature while a gaggle of cars behind him battled it out for the runner-up spot. Zach Audet won the battle for second and continued his pursuit in the coming laps, making his way to Kyle Willette’s door on lap 8. Spencer Sweatt joined shortly thereafter, making it a 3-way battle for the top spot. After battling it out for a handful of laps, Audet pulled ahead with the advantage on lap 15. He sailed into the victory while Kyle Willette and Spencer Sweatt rounded out the top 3.

Nick Hinkley celebrated his victory with his 2 young sons.

Nick Calvert took off with a sizable early lead in the Norms Used Cars Pro Stocks’ 40-lap feature. Trouble was brewing early as Matt Beers backed into the turn 1 wall on lap 8, which resulted in a brief red flag. Nick Hinkley powered around Nick Calvert on the restart, taking over the top spot. Hinkley extended his lead to a full straightaway in the closing 10 laps of the race, which is where Dan McKeage, Jr. entered the fray. He made his way into the top 3 with just 8 laps to go and continued his pursuit as the laps wound down, overtaking Logan Melcher for the runner-up spot. Hinkley’s win was impactful because it tied him with Dan McKeage, Jr. for the points lead in the division. If the season were to end today, Hinkley would be crowned the division champion based off of wins. It’s going to be interesting seeing how the points battle evolves in the closing laps of the season for the division.

Kyle Dorey was the big winner in the 100-lap Enduro.

The night concluded with the second Enduro race of the season, which is a 100-lap battle of attrition for non-weekly drivers only. The rules of the race are simple: you cannot be a weekly driver at Wiscasset Speedway, cautions only stop the race when there is a major accident and if you exit the track, you will be eliminated from the competition. Kyle Dorey and Ben Audet were the only 2 drivers to complete all 100 laps, with Dorey beating Audet to the line for the win. Irving Doughty followed, rounding out the top 3.

Team Wiscasset is now looking forward to their biggest racing spectacle of the season: the Boss Hogg 150! The action-packed 2-day event will begin on Saturday, with the Late Models, T&L Automotive Modifieds, Roadrunners and N.E. Dwarf Cars hitting the asphalt. The green flag flies at 5:00 on Saturday.

The weekend will conclude with the $15,000 to win Boss Hogg 150 on Sunday, September 1st. The day’s program, which is presented by Thurlow’s Car & Truck Service, will include the Strictly Streets, NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites in addition to the Pro Stocks.

The racing action kicks off at 2:00 pm on Sunday and as always, adult admission is just $5.

Saturday was a special day at Wiscasset Speedway as they were celebrating an event that only comes around once a year: their birthday! On top of celebrating 55 years of the speedway, Team Wiscasset used the day to honor their new 2024 Hall of Fame inductees and there was even a celebrity roaming around the grounds. You may know him as “Slugger”, or more formally, Slugger the Sea Dog.

Ben Burgess kicked off the day with a win in the 4-Cylinders.

The night’s racing action kicked off with a 20-lap makeup feature for the Brackett’s Market 4-Cylinder Pros. Jacobee Thacker and Max Parlin went head-to-head for the early lead, but defending champion Ben Burgess was quickly making his way through the field. He cleared Parlin for the runner-up spot on lap 4 and then made quick work of Thacker for the lead. Burgess continued to lead the charge through multiple restarts and ultimately picked up another win in the division. Jack McKee and Jacobee Thacker (first career podium) rounded out the top 3.

A local celebrity joined the 4 Cylinders in Victory Lane.

Jaxson Moreside held the upper hand in the opening laps of the second feature, but Ben Burgess was on a mission once again. He cleared John Ricci for the runner-up spot on lap 8 and then set sights on Jaxson Moreside, quickly maneuvering his way back to the top of the leaderboard. Burgess held strong in the closing laps of the feature, sweeping the night in the 4-Cylinder Pros. John Ricci and Jack McKee followed, completing the podium.

Jamie Wright was all smiles following his feature win.

Jamie Wright got out to a sizable early lead over racing veteran Kelly Moore and Shane Lane in the 40-lap feature for the Norm’s Used Cars Pro Stocks. While the top 3 pulled away, the field behind them was gridlocked from fourth on back. Dan McKeage, Jr. broke free from the traffic on lap 15 and began tracking down the leaders. Fortunately, they had built up enough of a lead that could not be broken. Jamie Wright took home his first feature win in 5 years while Kelly Moore and Dan McKeage, Jr. rounded out the top 3.

Zach Audet dominated in the Thunder 4 Minis.

Zach Audet powered into the early lead over Spencer Sweatt in the 20-lap Thunder 4 Mini feature. Mike Landry and Kyle Willette battled it out for third for the vast majority of the race but collided on lap 15. This resulted in a caution, bringing the field back together one final time. Audet took off on the restart, sailing away with the win while Spencer Sweatt and Ben Audet followed, completing the top 3.

The night concluded with the $1,500 to win Super Street 100, presented by Ward & Sons Builders. Bubba Pelton pulled ahead with the early lead, setting the pace. By lap 22, the leaders began approaching lap traffic. A 3-car collision on lap 39 resulted in a caution, but Pelton held strong on the restart.

Bubba Pelton took home the biggest win of the night.

While the leaders pulled out to a half-track lead, a 3-way battle for third was taking place behind them. Zach Bowie won the battle over David Greenleaf and Kevin Sherman, but his night ended prematurely on lap 76 as he made hard contact with the turn 3 wall. Nick Morton entered the picture in the closing laps of the feature and remained glued to Bubba Pelton’s back bumper, ready to strike. Pelton persevered through the pressure, taking home the victory over Nick Morton and Noah Haggett. Not only was Pelton awarded with a massive trophy, but he also took home $1,900 in total winnings and enjoyed a catered feast from Bingo’s BBQ after the finish was deemed official, of which he enjoyed with his family and crew members.

The last few weeks at Wiscasset Speedway have been jam-packed with exciting racing action, but there is still more yet to come! They will be hosting their next Group 2 program this coming Saturday, August 3rd.

The green flag flies at 5:00 pm and as always, adult admission is just $5!

After battling the weather for nearly a month, Wiscasset Speedway was finally able to get in a full program on Saturday night as they hosted all Group 1 divisions plus the visiting Milton CAT Modified Racing Series. It was also the first Fan Appreciation night of the season and drivers participated in an on-track autograph session prior to the start of the racing action.

Noah Haggett took the checkered in the 1st Super Street feature.

The night kicked off with a makeup 30-lap feature for the Gosline Insurance Group Super Streets. Nicole Benincasa and Noah Haggett squared up for the early lead and went toe-to-toe for a handful of laps before Haggett pulled away on lap 5. He carried Nick Morton in tow, who took over the runner-up spot. The top 3 had broken away at the halfway mark, but Jason Oakes had sudden troubles with 10 laps to go, forfeiting his spot to Kevin Sherman. Noah Haggett held tough on the final restart and picked up his first win of the season while Bubba Pelton beat Kevin Sherman to the line by a nose, scoring the runner-up spot.

John Ricci scored career win #2 in the 4-Cylinder Pros.

John Ricci powered to the early lead in the 25-lap feature for the Brackett’s Market 4-Cylinder Pros. Taylor Lane fell back on the opening lap, making way for Ben Burgess to take over the runner-up spot. Rookie Jaxson Moreside began to come to life in the closing laps of the feature, breaking the top 3 on lap 17. Nobody was any match for John Ricci, who took home his second career victory as Ben Burgess and Jaxson Moreside rounded out the podium.

The Modified Racing Series top 3 got some cool hardware!

Following driver introductions, the Modified Racing Series drivers took to the track for their spotlight 75-lap feature. Kurt Vigeant won his qualifying heat early in the day and took off with the lead in the feature. Mike Collins was all over his back bumper from the jump, eventually taking over on lap 9 as Brian Robie followed in succession. Brett Meservey stayed tight to the leaders and made his move on lap 54, knocking on Brian Robie’s door for the runner-up spot. He took over the following lap and continued his mission, tracking down Mike Collins for the top spot. Meservey succeeded and continued to hold off the competition in the closing laps, picking up his first career win in the touring series. Brian Robie and Mike Collins followed, completing the podium.

Landon Tapley dominated the 2nd Super Street feature.

Landon Tapley, who grew accustomed to drawing the “short straw” time after time, got the upper hand in the second Super Street feature as he pulled away with the early lead. Matt Beers was also on a mission early, breaking the top 3 in the opening laps before overtaking Josh Hall for the runner-up spot on lap 5. Tapley was able to hold off Beers for the remainder of the feature, scoring his first career win in the division. Nick Morton followed, rounding out the top 3.

3 friends made up the top 3 in the Thunder 4 Minis.

There was a small but mighty field for the Thunder 4 Minis. The drivers still managed to put on a great show with a tight 3-way battle for the lead from the get-go. Teammates Kyle Willette and Zach Audet went head-to-head for a handful of laps before Willette broke free with two laps to go. He sailed into the victory while Zach Audet and Spencer Sweatt followed, finishing the podium.

The night concluded with a 40-lap feature for the Norm’s Used Cars Pro Stocks. There was a hearty field, which included many veterans and returning drivers, including Kelly Moore, Nick Reno and Kenny Harrison, among others. Shane Lane held onto the early lead for a handful of laps before forfeiting the spot to Charlie Colby. Lane began to lose momentum, dropping back to fourth behind Dan McKeage, Jr. and JT Thurlow. A mid-race caution on lap 26 brought the field back together one final time.

Nick Hinkley ended the night with a win in the Pro Stocks.

Dan McKeage, Jr. took over the top spot on the restart, but Nick Hinkley began to come to life in the closing laps of the feature. He cleared Charlie Colby for the runner-up spot with ten laps to go and set his sights on the leader, overtaking McKeage for the lead on lap 35. It was a dog fight for second in the closing laps, but Charlie Colby was able to reclaim the runner-up spot with just two laps to go. While Hinkley sailed into the victory, Charlie Colby and Dan McKeage, Jr. rounded out the top 3.

Team Wiscasset pulled together on Saturday night, hosting an extended racing program in just 3 hours’ time. It was a great night of competition and the track hopes that it will continue into next week’s Group 2 program, which will include double features for both the Late Models and Modifieds.

The green flag flies at 5:00 pm and as always, adult admission is just $5!

Following yet another successful Coastal 200 race weekend, Wiscasset Speedway kept the excitement brewing on Saturday as they hosted a full Group 1 race program featuring the lightning fast NEMA Lites

Presented by Ames True Value, the program also included the Norm’s Used Cars Pro Stocks, Brackett’s Market 4-Cylinder Pros, Gosline Insurance Super Streets and the Kennebec Equipment Rental Thunder 4 Minis.

John Ricci picked up career win #1 at Wiscasset Speedway.

The 4-Cylinder Pros kicked off the night with a 25-lap feature race. Jacobee Thacker, who scored his first heat race victory earlier in the night, took off with the early lead in the feature. He was caught up in an unfortunate incident on lap 5, which resulted in reigning champion Ben Burgess taking over the top spot. Burgess maintained command throughout the caution-plagued race but met his dismay on lap 15 as he was caught up in a late-race caution. Taylor Lane was catapulted into the top spot, but rookie John Ricci was quickly making his way through the thinning field. The two drivers battled it out in the closing laps of the race and Lane took a spin coming to the checkered. Ricci was deemed the race winner, scoring his first career victory at Wiscasset. Chassidy Shorty (first career podium) and Taylor Lane rounded out the top 3.

Paul Scally waves to the fans in Victory Lane.

Kyle Valeri topped the speed charts in practice and also won his qualifying heat race for the NEMA Lites while Paul Scally won the other. Come the 60-lap feature, Scally got the upper hand from the get-go, taking off with the early lead. The race miraculously went wire to wire in less than 15 minutes without any cautions while Paul Scally maintained command, picking up the feature victory. Randy Cabral and Kyle Valeri followed, completing the podium.

Kevin Sherman was all smiles in Victory Lane.

Maurice Young and Jason Oakes won the qualifying heat races for the Super Streets, but it was Kevin Sherman who took hold of the lead early in the 30-lap feature race and ran with it. In a surprising turn of events, this race also went green to checkered with no cautions. Sherman picked up his first feature victory at Wiscasset Speedway in over 11 years, which also happened to be his first career win in the Super Streets. Meanwhile, Nick Morton and Matt Beers rounded out the top 3.

Zach Audet continues his reign in the Thunder 4 Minis.

Multi-time track champion Zach Audet was the one to beat on Saturday in the Thunder 4 Minis, topping the leaderboard in first practice and winning the qualifying heat race. He continued his dominance later in the night by winning the feature race, which shocked everyone as it went 25 laps without any cautions. Shane Webber and Gregg Norton (1st career top 3) followed, securing the final 2 spots on the podium.

Kevin Douglass goes 2 for 2 in the Pro Stocks to start the season.

The night concluded with a 50-lap feature race for the Pro Stocks. Rookie Sylas Ripley held his ground early, commanding the opening laps of the race. Meanwhile, Logan Melcher was steadily climbing the leaderboard, taking over the top spot on lap 16. Melcher took off with a sizable lead, but Kevin Douglass was hard charging through the field – quickly at that. Douglass cleared Sylas Ripley for the runner-up spot on lap 27 and continued the momentum, making his way to Melcher’s door on lap 32. Douglass dug in, overtaking the top spot the following lap. He sailed into the victory, picking up his second feature win of the season in just two starts. Logan Melcher and Sylas Ripley (first SLM podium) rounded out the top 3.

Saturday night’s program featured both clean and exciting racing action, making it an enjoyable night for all! The fun will continue next Saturday, June 8th as all Group 2 divisions plus the Outlaw Minis return to the track.

As always, admission is just $5 for adults and free for kids 6 and under.

See you there!

With both Opening Days in the rearview, the 2024 season at Wiscasset Speedway is now rolling full steam ahead with many exciting events on the horizon. Saturday’s Group 1 racing action added to the anticipation, featuring some twists, turns and surprises that left fans on the edge of their seats throughout the program.

The podium drivers were all smiles in Super Street Victory Lane.

The night kicked off with a 40-lap Spotlight feature for the Gosline Insurance Group Super Streets. Series standout Bubba Pelton won the qualifying heat race and took off with the early lead in the feature, but Nick Morton was slowly reeling him in. Morton made his way to Pelton’s outside door on lap 15, challenging for the top spot before overtaking the lead the lap following. Melee ensued mid-race with an incident that collected Maurice Young, Jason Oakes and Kenny Harrison, resulting in a caution. Nick Morton held strong on the restart, pulling away by a sizable margin. He maintained command, taking home his second career win in the division. While Morton celebrated joyously in Victory Lane, Bubba Pelton and James Osmond joined him, completing the podium.

The finishing order remains unofficial for the Thunder 4 Minis.

Kyle Willette took off like a rocket in the 25-lap feature race for the Kennebec Equipment Rental Thunder 4 Minis. Meanwhile, former champion Shane Webber faced trouble early as he was black flagged for a loose wheel, forcing him to retreat to the pits. Willette maintained his advantage through the conclusion of the feature, picking up his first win of the season. Derek Cook and Gunner Josselyn rounded out the top 3. *Race results from the Thunder 4 Mini race are still unofficial due to a pending tech review.*

Ben Burgess makes it 2 in a row in the 4-Cylinder Pros.

A pile-up at the tail end of the field resulted in a slow start to the 25-lap Brackett’s Market 4-Cylinder Pro feature, but Taylor Lane led the field as the feature got rolling. Meanwhile, rookie John Ricci was on the move, overtaking the top spot on lap 8. A mid-race caution brought the field back together and Ricci fought to hold off a hard-charging Ben Burgess. As the laps wound down, Ben Burgess turned the heat up and the two young drivers battled it out until the bitter end. After an exciting back & forth, Burgess took home his second consecutive victory in the division while John Ricci and Jack McKee followed, completing the top 3.

During practice for the Norm’s Used Cars Pro Stocks, JT Thurlow unfortunately fell ill, resulting in a surprise driver change for the #9 machine for both the heat and feature. Who better to fill in than the reigning PASS North and Boss Hogg 150 champion, Max Cookson? Cookson topped the leaderboard in final practice and even won the track’s 50/50 raffle, but it was multi-time champion Nick Hinkley who got the early jump in the 40-lap feature. 3-wide mayhem in the opening laps of the race also led to a big mix-up as Matt Beers was shuffled to the back of the pack. The chaos continued as Sylas Ripley and Shawn Knight made contact on lap 13, resulting in a caution.

Nick Hinkley returned to winning form in the Pro Stocks.

Nick Hinkley maintained command through two late-race restarts, leaving Max Cookson and Dan McKeage, Jr. battling it out for the runner-up spot behind him. After a heated door-to-door battle, Cookson pulled away with the spot with just 5 laps to go. He wasn’t quite able to catch up to Hinkley, who took home his first victory of the season. Dan McKeage, Jr. rounded out the top 3, scoring his third-straight podium finish at the speedway.

It was hot & humid on Saturday night up the coast of Maine, but that didn’t stop Wiscasset Speedway as they hosted an action-packed Group 1 racing program. The night featured the Brackett’s Market 4-Cylinder Pros, Norm’s Used Cars Pro Stocks, Sweatt’s Concrete Thunder 4 Minis and double features for the Gosline Insurance Super Streets.

L-R: David Greenleaf, Keith Drost and Nick Morton.

Keith Drost took the early lead in the first of two 30-lap features for the Strictly Streets. Trouble was brewing behind the leader on lap 16 as Michael Harrison took it 3-wide for position, causing James Osmond to spin. This resulted in a chain reaction and the first caution of the night. David Greenleaf gave Keith Drost a run for his money on the restart, but Drost broke free on lap 20. As the laps began to wind down, David Greenleaf and his good friend Nick Morton battled it out for the runner-up spot. Morton pulled ahead with three laps to go but was unable to catch up to Keith Drost, who took home his first career win in the division.

Reed & his great grandfather Lawrence Reno in Victory Lane.

Jack McKee led the field to green in the 25-Lap 4-Cylinder Pro feature. Taylor Lane and Chassidy Shorty both took spins on lap 5, resulting in a caution. Reed Reno took over on the restart as Ben Burgess and Josh Hall filed in behind him. Reed Reno remained calm and consistent for the remainder of the feature as he fought off both Burgess and Hall to pick up his first career feature victory at Wiscasset Speedway at the young age of 13. Reed, a fourth-generation driver, celebrated with his father Nick and great-grandfather Lawrence (a Hall of Fame driver himself) in Victory Lane.

L-R: Josh St. Clair, Nya Clossey , Kevin Douglass and Jamie Wright.

The 40-lap Pro Stock feature got off to a chaotic start with a caution on lap 1 followed by a botched restart by the two leaders. The top 2 rows were swapped following this, which made Jamie Wright the race leader. Wright pulled away on the restart, but Josh St. Clair was quickly coming through the field, breaking the top 3 on lap 5 after starting back in 9th. Josh St. Clair tracked down Jamie Wright for the lead by lap 13, swiftly taking over the top spot as Kevin Douglass followed in succession. Douglass began to cut into St. Clair’s lead lap by lap, meeting him at his door on lap 32. St. Clair bobbled shortly thereafter, nearly losing it in turn 4. This catapulted Kevin Douglass into the lead as Josh St. Clair fell to third behind Jamie Wright. Douglass picked up the win, celebrating with his friends and family in Victory Lane.

L-R: Zach Audet, Nya Clossey, Shane Webber & Gunnar Josselyn.

Gunnar Josselyn took off with a sizable early lead in the 25-lap Thunder 4 Mini feature. A pile-up at the back of the pack on lap 8 brought the field back together and both Shane Webber and Zach Audet were both on Josselyn’s toes. Shane Webber catapulted to the lead following a late-race restart and never looked back, securing the victory over Gunnar Josselyn and Zach Audet.

L-R: Kenny Harrison, Nya Clossey, Noah Haggett & Bubba Pelton.

The night concluded with a final 30-lap feature for the Super Streets. Kevin Sherman took off with the early lead, but both Mike Harrison and Mark Lucas fell victim to the turn 3 wall in the opening laps of the race. Once the field was settled, Maurice Young became the new race leader. He maintained his lead through another caution on lap 11, but Brett Osmond was hungry for the top spot. While battling for position, Young and Osmond collided on lap 20, collecting David Greenleaf and others. Both drivers were forced to restart at the tail-end of the field, which catapulted Noah Haggett into the lead. Haggett held off a late-race charge by Bubba Pelton to pick up his second win in 3 weeks in the division. Kenny Harrison rounded out the podium.

The 2023 race season at Wiscasset Speedway is beginning to wind down, but there is still more fun to come! All Group #2 divisions plus the Roadrunners and Mainely Karting Senior Champ Karts will hit the track on Saturday, September 16th for Group #2 Fan Night, sponsored by Bozzutto’s Inc. and Mainely Motorsports. The driver autograph session will begin at 4:00 pm, followed by kids’ bike races. As always, admission is just $5!

Wiscasset Speedway went under the lights for the first time this season on Saturday, hosting the second week of Group 1 competition. The loaded program included the Sweatt’s Concrete Thunder 4 Minis, Norm’s Used Car Pro Stocks, Brackett’s Market 4 Cylinder Pros, Gosline Insurance Super Streets and the Wicked Good Outlaws/Late Models.

Thunder 4 Mini Victory Lane.

The Thunder 4 Minis kicked off the program with their spotlight 35-lap feature. Michael Golding took off with the early lead but Zach Audet was on the charge early, breaking the top five on lap 3 after starting at the tail-end of the field. A couple of early-race cautions brought the field back together in the opening laps and Mickey Landry took advantage, taking over the top spot as Golding began to descend through the field. Zach Audet was all over Landry’s back bumper in the coming laps, waiting to strike. Audet took the reins on lap 11, leading a 4-car breakaway at the front of the field. He held off his competitors through the remainder of the feature, picking up his second consecutive win in the division. Mickey Landry, Jr. and Derek Cook rounded out the podium.

Paul Soquette in Victory Lane.

There was a frightening incident on lap 1 of the Wicked Good Outlaw feature which involved Marco Gilbert, Kevin Sherman and Doug Picard. The three drivers tangled in turn 1 and Sherman ultimately ended up on his roof. The race was immediately red flagged, and all 3 drivers miraculously walked away from the carnage. Following the accident, 2 drivers were left on the track. The race was then reduced to 10 laps and Paul Soquette and James Osmond put on a show for the fans. Soquette picked up the victory, scoring his first career win at Wiscasset Speedway.

After winning his qualifying heat race, Nick Calvert led the charge in the 40-lap Pro Stock feature. Logan Melcher was on his toes, pulling to Calvert’s door on lap 10 and ultimately taking over the top spot. Josh St. Clair was powering through the field behind the leaders, overtaking Matt Beers for third on lap 13 before stealing second away from Nick Calvert. David Getchell took a spin right behind the leaders on lap 25, collecting both Jamie Wright and Matt Beers. Getchell’s car subsequently began draining radiator fluid onto the track surface, resulting in a red flag.

Pro Stock top 3, all smiles in Victory Lane.

Josh St. Clair took over on the restart, but trouble was brewing behind the leaders once again as Jamie Wright took a spin in turn 4 with five laps to go. This incident collected Andy Gilbert, Dan McKeage, Jr. and Matt Beers as well. St. Clair held strong on the restart and sailed into the victory, picking up the Pro Stock win on his birthday. Logan Melcher and Nick Hinkley rounded out the podium.

Wicked Good Late Model Top 3.

Dave Foster won the qualifying heat race in the Wicked Good Late Models and carried his success into the 20-lap feature as well, scoring the victory over Jim Kinney and Norman Judkins, who put on a barnburner for second place. Kinney beat out Judkins by .003 seconds at the finish line.

Jack McKee missed a shift on the initial start of the 25-lap 4-Cylinder Pro feature. The field stacked up behind him and both Josh Hall and Reed Reno’s cars were left with damage, resulting in a caution. All 3 drivers returned to the track for the restart and Josh Hall was on a mission, taking his competitors 3-wide for the lead. Hall succeeded in his attempt, pulling away with the top spot. Ben Burgess was on the move in the second half of the race, climbing up to third and challenging Reed Reno for second before retiring from the race early on lap 22.

4-Cylinder Pro Victory Lane.

Nobody was any match for Hall in the closing laps of the race as he sailed into the victory, picking up his second win of the season. Reed Reno and Jack McKee rounded out the top 3.

The night concluded with a 30-lap feature from the Super Streets where Maurice Young took off with the early lead over Bubba Pelton. Meanwhile, defending champion Brett Osmond dropped out of the race on lap 3 due to an equipment malfunction. Nick Morton cleared Bubba Pelton for second on lap 16 and began chasing down the leader. Rookie Noah Haggett was also on the move in the closing laps of the race, diving to Bubba Pelton’s inside and taking over third with just two laps to go. Nick Morton attempted a Hail Mary on the final lap of the feature, pulling to Maurice Young’s outside door to challenge for the top spot. Maurice Young held him off, picking up his first feature victory in 6 years at Wiscasset Speedway.

3 happy faces in Super Streets Victory Lane.

The win was momentous for Young as he is the most decorated champion (7 career championships) in Wiscasset history. The second-place finish was also Nick Morton’s first career top 3 and third place finisher Noah Haggett scored his first career Super Streets podium as well.

Saturday was a night of firsts for many drivers at Wiscasset Speedway we certainly hope to see more new faces in Victory Lane as the season rolls on!
