Mother Nature reared her ugly head throughout the day on Saturday, dampening the coast of Maine. The forecast was dim, but the Wiscasset Speedway team remained optimistic and decided to roll the dice. Fortunately, they made the right decision and the Group 2 racing program continued on with minimal delays.

Dan McKeage, Jr. tops the podium once again in the Strictly Streets.

The Portland Glass Strictly Streets set the tone for the evening with an action-packed 35-lap feature. Dan McKeage, Jr. started towards the tail-end of the field but used all race grooves to his advantage as he climbed the leaderboard. With under ten laps to go, he found himself in the top 3. After clearing Mac Hannan, Jr. for the runner-up spot, he set his sights on his friend and teammate, Wade Kennedy. The two drivers battled side-by-side for the closing laps of the feature, with McKeage pulling ahead on the final lap to pick up his second consecutive win in the division. Mac Hannan, Jr. followed Wade Kennedy, rounding out the podium.

Kyle Enman picked up win #2 in the Roadrunners.

The Outlaw Minis also returned to the program as a visiting division. Jeff Farrington absolutely dominated the 20-lap feature, taking home the win over Wyatt DiPietro and Ryan Kenniston. The Chestnut Auto Roadrunners followed, with Kyle Enman picking up his second win of the season as Alec Brown and Dylan York closed out the top 3.

Frank Moulton won the battle of survival in the Late Models.

19 drivers started the 40-lap feature for the Wood Pellet Warehouse Late Models, but only 9 drivers survived the battle and crossed the finish line. The race was plagued with multiple cautions that took out numerous heavy hitters including Tiger Colby, Shane Clark and Will Collins; 3 of the biggest competitors in the division. Frank Moulton and Alex Waltz put on a spirited battle for the win in the closing laps of the feature, but Moulton won the battle of attrition, scoring his second feature victory of the 2024 season. Brett Osmond followed, picking up yet another podium finish.

Adam Chadbourne was all smiles in Modified Victory Lane.

The T&L Automotive Modifieds rounded out the night with a 30-lap feature. Multi-time champion Adam Chadbourne won the qualifying heat race and started on the pole for the feature. He took off from there, putting half of the field a lap down before a mid-race caution brought the field back together. The race ended under checkered-yellow conditions following an incident involving Faith Cleaves and Reed Reno, but Chadbourne held strong, picking up his 75th career victory. Chadbourne happily celebrated his career achievement in Victory Lane with family and friends and was joined by Chuck Colby and Brian Treadwell, who rounded out the top 3.

Wiscasset battled the rain and won last weekend, but it’s looking like there will be sunny skies for this weekends’ race program on Saturday, June 15th. The program will include all weekly Group 1 divisions plus the visiting New England Pro-4 Modifieds.

As always, admission is just $5 and kids 6 and under are FREE!

I hope to see you there!

After an unfortunate washout last week, Wiscasset Speedway returned to action on Saturday with an action-packed Group 2 racing program which included the T&L Automotive Modifieds, Portland Glass Strictly Streets, Kennebec Equipment Rental Outlaw Minis, Wood Pellet Warehouse Late Models and the visiting New England Pro 4 Modifieds.

The racing action kicked off with a spotlight 30-lap feature from the weekly T&L Automotive Modifieds. The field got stacked up on the initial start, sending Doug Phillips hard into the turn 1 wall. This was followed by multiple cautions that caught up several heavy hitters including Ryan Ripley, Steve Reno and Scott Trask, among others. Race control called for single file restarts following the melee and Adam Chadbourne took off with the advantage.

Adam Chadbourne, all smiles after win #70.

A 20-minute rain delay followed and the Modifieds returned to the track. Adam Chadbourne continued to excel on the restart, pulling away from Nick Reno. Faith Cleaves and Wayne Whitten made contact on lap 6, causing Wayne Whitten to spin. This resulted in another caution and the race was reduced to 15 laps. Adam Chadbourne held strong, fighting off Nick Reno for his 70th career victory at Wiscasset Speedway. Faith Cleaves followed, rounding out the top 3 with her first podium of the season.

Former BRMS drivers took over Victory Lane on Saturday.

Wade Kennedy took off with the early lead over Brady Romano in the 25-lap Strictly Street feature. He extended his lead to nearly four seconds by lap 10 but trouble was brewing behind the leaders. Brady Romano took a spin on lap 12, collecting Mac Hannan, Jr. and Alex Cromwell. Kennedy maintained his advantage on the restart while Dan McKeage, Jr. was also on the move, cracking the top 3. A late race caution on lap 15 brought the field back together but Wade Kennedy remained steadfast as Dan McKeage, Jr. and Kurt Hewins filed in behind him. Josh St. Clair entered the picture in the closing laps, stealing third away from Kurt Hewins with 4 laps to go. Wade Kennedy held strong, picking up his first career victory at Wiscasset Speedway. Dan McKeage, Jr. (first career podium at Wiscasset) and Josh St. Clair rounded out the top 3.

Pro 4 Modified Top 3.

Rob Richardi pulled away with the early lead in the 30-lap Pro 4 Modified feature as Jack Dumas trailed closely behind. Brayden Meservey made hard impact with the turn 3 wall on lap 13, halting the racing action. Doug Meservey gave Rob Richardi a run for his money on the restart, but Richardi held strong, picking up the feature victory. Jack Dumas followed, rounding out the podium.

Jimmy Childs happily celebrates win #1 of 2023.

Jason Kimball took off from the get-go in the 25-lap Outlaw Mini feature. Multi-time champions Zach Audet and Jimmy Childs were both on the move early, taking Bryan Robbins 3-wide for third on lap 6. Jimmy Childs capitalized, pulling away with the spot. He continued his pursuit in the laps following, picking off Jeff Farrington for second on lap 18. Childs was all over Jason Kimball’s back bumper in the closing laps. While battling for position, the two drivers made contact on lap 21. Kimball nearly spun but saved it, descending through the field as Jimmy Childs pulled ahead with the lead. He held strong, picking up his first victory of the season as Jeff Farrington and Zach Audet rounded out the top 3.

Jet Decker takes home win #1 of the season.

Frank Moulton and Jet Decker went head-to-head for the early lead in the 40-lap Late Model feature. The early laps of the race were met with chaos as multiple cautions halted the racing action. Once the field got rolling, Jet Decker took off with the advantage. Josh St. Clair was also on the move, overtaking Frank Moulton for the runner-up spot on lap 16. Jet Decker maintained command as a mid-race caution brought the field back together on lap 19. This left Josh St. Clair and Frank Moulton battling it out for second once again. St. Clair pulled ahead on lap 24 and began tracking down Jet Decker. Shane Clark and Frank Moulton put on a spirited battle for third in the closing laps and Shane Clark persevered, taking home third behind Jet Decker (first win of the season) and Josh St. Clair.

Saturday’s racing program was filled with exciting racing action. The fun continues as Group #1 makes its return after an unexpected month-long hiatus (due to rain) on Saturday, June 17th. Fans will enjoy an extended program featuring the Pro Stocks, Super Streets, Thunder 4 Minis, 4-Cylinder Pros and the flex S.T.A.R. Tour. The green flag flies at 5:00 pm.

This past Saturday, the 88.5FM Modifieds returned to Wiscasset Speedway for the Group 2 season opener. The growing division welcomed 12 competitors on Opening Day including last year’s champion Adam Chadbourne, veteran driver Ryan Ripley and newcomers like Brandon Williams, last year’s Mad Bomber JV champion at Beech Ridge.

The competition kicked off with two 10-lap qualifying heat races. Mike Brown’s trouble started early as he went hard into the turn 1 tires on the initial start, resulting in a caution.

Jeff Burgess powered to the lead over Brandon Williams on the restart as last year’s Rookie of the Year, Faith Cleaves, followed suit.

Ryan Ripley and Adam Chadbourne battled it out for position behind Brandon Williams on lap 5. Chadbourne won the battle on lap 7 and moved onto Williams, clearing him for fourth as Ryan Ripley trailed closely behind.

Ryan Ripley wasn’t done yet, navigating his way back to Adam Chadbourne’s outside door. Ripley cleared Chadbourne for third on the final lap, rounding out the podium alongside heat winner Jeff Burgess and Faith Cleaves.

Scott Trask piled into the turn 4 wall on the initial lap of the second and final heat race, resulting in an early caution. Trask was able to walk away from the incident, but the #99 machine was unfortunately left mangled.

Allan Moeller, wheeling Richard Jordan’s #8 machine, and Tyler Robbins battled it out for the top spot on the restart as Brian Treadwell lingered closely behind. The two leaders broke free from Treadwell on lap 4 and misfortune came shortly thereafter for Treadwell, who cut down a tire before retiring to the pits.

Allan Moeller, a 2021 Wiscasset Hall of Fame inductee, finally cleared Tyler Robbins for the lead with just one lap to go. Moeller went on to secure the heat victory, followed by Tyler Robbins and Bobby Mesimer.

Jeff Burgess pulled away with a sizable early lead in the 30-lap feature. Trouble was brewing for Bobby Mesimer as he took a spin on lap 6 in turn 4, resulting in an early caution.

Ryan Ripley powered to the lead on the restart. Tyler Robbins was also on the move behind the leaders, clearing Faith Cleaves for third on lap 8 as Adam Chadbourne followed in succession. Chadbourne continued his pursuit to the front in the coming laps, knocking on Tyler Robbins door for third before Brian Treadwell made it a 3-way battle on lap 15.

Adam Chadbourne, a 7-time winner and eventual champion last season, finally cleared Tyler Robbins for third on lap 18, leaving Robbins and Brian Treadwell battling it out for position. Treadwell continued to push the envelope, overtaking Robbins for the position on lap 22.

After a strong showing all day, Adam Chadbourne came to a slow on lap 27, shockingly retiring to the pits. Allan Moeller, who secured the heat victory earlier in the day, exited the track prematurely as well.

Ryan Ripley maintained his advantage through the closing laps of the race, picking up the feature victory. Jeff Burgess, Brian Treadwell, Tyler Robbins and Faith Cleaves rounded out the top five.

Ripley, a 3rd generation driver, happily celebrated with a large group of family and friends in Victory Lane following the conclusion of the race.

Ryan Ripley started out the season on a high note, but drivers like Jeff Burgess, Brian Treadwell and Adam Chadbourne also showed strength on Opening Day. The competition in the Modified division is intense and it’ll be exciting seeing how it all plays out over the course of the 2022 season.

You can catch the Modifieds again on Saturday, May 14th at 5:00 pm. Until then, join us for week #2 of Group 1 competition next Saturday, May 7th. Grandstands open at 4:00 pm and green flag drops at 5:00 pm. Grandstand admission is still just $5 for adults and FREE for kids 6 and under.
