Saturday, April 30th marked the Group 2 Season Opener at Wiscasset Speedway, which also served as the first race of the year for the T&L Automotive Roadrunners division.

Logan and Larry Melcher, the owners of T&L Automotive who are also members of the Wiscasset family, stepped up to sponsor both the Roadrunner division and the Enduro Series this year at Wiscasset. The Roadrunners are a non-point flex division that races 7 different times over the course of the season on varying race days.

The competition kicked off with a single qualifying heat race. Jason Meservey took off with the early lead in the heat as Seth Woodard and Adam Gardiner went head-to-head for third behind the leaders. Woodard won the battle on lap 3 before quickly overtaking David Whitelaw for the runner-up spot.

Woodard continued his pursuit throughout the second half of the race, stealing the lead away from Jason Meservey on lap 7 as Adam Gardiner trailed closely behind. Woodard separated himself from Gardiner in the closing laps of the race, securing the heat victory. Jason Meservey rounded out the top 3.

Adam Gardiner pulled away with the initial lead in the 20-lap feature, but Seth Woodard was on the move once again, stealing the top spot away on lap 5. Nicole Brown and others tangled on lap 6 in turn 1, resulting in an early race caution.

Seth Woodard maintained his advantage over Adam Gardiner on the restart and the two drivers began to pull away, extending their lead pack advantage to a full straightaway with just five laps to go.

Woodard successfully held off Adam Gardiner through the closing laps of the feature, picking up the Opening Day victory. Jason Meservey, David Whitelaw and Carl Conant rounded out the top five.

Seth Woodard displayed strength throughout the day and ultimately came out on top, but it’s undeniable that both Adam Gardiner and Jason Meservey gave him a run for his money.

You can catch the Roadrunners again on Sunday, May 29th at 2:00 pm as they are on the racing program for the Coastal 200.
